The Muslim prayer is a communication and dialogue between the Creator and the created. It is a highly spiritual as well as physical form of worship that Muslims practice at least five times a day to establish and strengthen their relationship with God Almighty. This Muslim presentation was one of the ten performances produced by various faith groups in the state including Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Native American, Pagan, Sikh and Unitarian Universalists.
Hundreds of visitors to the performance were left spellbound as the Muslim prayer call or ‘Azan’ echoed across the historic Newberry Opera House on Sunday, January 27, 2013. The program was part of the event called ‘Spiritually Expressed through the Performance Arts’ to celebrate the Interfaith Harmony Month in the state of South Carolina. Following the prayer call, a group of Muslim children led by an Imam, demonstrated the Muslim prayer or ‘Salah’ while Chaudhry Sadiq, President, PICNA provided a commentary elaborating the concept, practice and benefits of this core element of Muslim faith. Muslim prayer calls echo across the planet 24 hours a day, thus glorifying the name of God Almighty, said Chaudhry Sadiq.
