‘PICNA’, the Peace and Integration Council of North America, collaborated with ‘Transitions’ and ‘The Salvation Army’ to feed about 150 homeless people as a part of their ‘Sharing Ramadan’ program in South Carolina on Friday, August 10, 2012.

While Muslims all over the world observed the holy month of Ramadan, PICNA reached out to the section of our society that most urgently needs our attention, care and support. In the spirit of Ramadan which emphasizes caring, sharing and sacrifice, a number of Muslim families prepared meals while fasting and served the food to the homeless at the premises of ‘Transitions’ in downtown Columbia.

It was a delight to see the young and adult Muslim volunteers as they observed a nearly 15 hour fast while cheerfully serving food to the needy on a hot August afternoon. No doubt, faith brings out the best in us and we could witness humanity at its best in this year’s ‘Sharing Ramadan’ event.
‘Transitions’ strives to stabilize the lives of the homeless and gradually move them into permanent housing. They collaborate with many social and community organizations like PICNA to achieve their goals and mission.
