PICNA’s Policy Statement on Anti-Islam Film and the Consequential Events

The management of PICNA, Peace and integration council of Minhaj ul Quran International (MQI), condemns the anti-Islam film that defames Islam and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and as a consequence, deeply hurts the sentiments of 1.5 billion Muslims across the globe.  Simultaneously, PICNA condemns the violent reaction that has occurred in certain countries resulting in loss of precious lives including those of American diplomats as well as extensive damage to property.

Islam is a religion of peace and, even in war, Islam prohibits the killing of innocents, the elderly, women and children, while also forbidding the damaging or destroying of crops or fruit bearing trees.  Prophet Muhammad, declared by God Almighty as a ‘Mercy for all the worlds’, always showed love, tolerance, mercy and compassion even in the worst of circumstances and his entire life exemplified the most beautiful conduct and excellent mannerisms.

It is most disturbing that these unfortunate events occurred around 9/11 and at a time when the renowned Islamic scholar and author of “Fatwa (Islamic ruling) on Suicide Bombings and Terrorism”, Dr. Tahir ul Qadri, was launching his Fatwa in Denmark and addressing a three day European Peace Conference there.  Such efforts are examples of how Minhaj ul Quran International (MQI) as well as PICNA strive to contribute to world peace, goodwill and mutual understanding.

PICNA’s President, Chaudhry Sadiq, in his recent interview with WACH FOX TV, called upon Muslims to respond to such inflammatory acts with dignity, tolerance, compassion and wisdom.  (A link to his interview can be found at the end of this statement).

PICNA calls on all people of conscience as well as intellectuals and community and interfaith leaders in the western world, to speak out more effectively against such inhuman, unethical and irresponsible acts that defame any faith and the revered prophets.  PICNA simultaneously calls for restraint, tolerance and a dignified response in the Muslim world to stem this vicious cycle of violence and destruction.
