The historic town of Newberry, SC, witnessed an enthusiastic crowd eager to learn all about Islam and Muslims. Five Muslim representatives from various walks of life, participated in a panel discussion that revolved around Muslim faith, their practices and experiences.
Organized by John Halfacre, an inspirational interfaith leader, the seminar held on Thursday, 24th January 2013, proved a great success as evidenced by the packed hall and an almost endless Q & A session following some great presentations. Dr. Carl Evans, President of Interfaith Partners of South Carolina, the moderator, asked the panelists for their perspectives on Islam from their vintage point.
The five panelists with diverse backgrounds were: Chaudhry Sadiq - President, PICNA, Farrah Khan - a registered nurse, Zohra Arastu – a long time Muslim resident of SC, Nidah Hussain - a senior student at the University of South Carolina and Omar Shaheed – an Imam and a Chaplain at the Department of Corrections.
The audience comprising of Newberry College students as well as residents of Newberry and surrounding towns asked excellent questions and engaged the panelists in conversation well after the event had ended.
